Dr. Yu-Fei Yang is a Professor of Medical Oncology and Director of the Department of Oncology, Xi Yuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, China. Dr. Yang obtained her medical degree at Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1984 and completed her graduate studies and acquired a Ph.D. in Hematology under the supervision of Professor Ai-Xiang Zhou at China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences in 1993.
Her practice in medical oncology is dedicated to the management and care of cancer patients. Her academic activities primarily involve clinical research in colorectal cancer. Specific areas of interest are focusing on comprehensive cancer therapy strategies integrated with TCM centered on multi-dimensional assessment of physical and psychosocial symptoms, as well as on pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatment approaches. Dr. Yang developed a special model of TCM comprehensive treatment, as well as TCM dietetic therapy and TCM five elements music therapy. She has made a major contribution to a number of clinical research projects that have led to meaningful changes in the quality of life of cancer patients, particularly in side effects associated with undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy.
Dr. Yang has been the Director of the Department of Oncology, Xi Yuan Hospital since the department was founded in 1996. She is the Secretary-general of Chinese Geriatric Oncology Society (CGOS). She also serves as the Executive Council Member of Specialty Committee of Oncology of Chinese Association of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine, the Executive Council Member of Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO), as well as the Executive Council Member of Specialty Committee of Oncology of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.
She was nominated China Outstanding Youth of TCM Doctor in 1995 and honoured with China Outstanding TCM Lady Doctor in 2007. She has received four scientific excellence prizes at provincial and state level.
Dr. Yang has over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has authored 10 monographs and 7 encyclopedias on clinical oncology in Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine.
