Biography of Dr. Daihan Zhou

Dr. Daihan Zhou, born in Shantou, east of Guangdong province, China in 1941, was graduated from School of Medicine, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (GZUCM) in 1966. Dr. Daihan Zhou is a Chief Professor and doctoral program faculty mentor in Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and Physician-in-Chief of the First Affiliated Hospital, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. Dr. Zhou currently serves as council member of China Association of Chinese Medicine (CACM), and officially recognized as one of the renowned and veteran Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) masters by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China.

Dr. Zhou has been dedicated to TCM oncology in the past 40 years of clinical and research experience in the use of TCM and integrated Chinese and Western medicine in the prevention and treatment of cancer. Dr. Zhou is one of the pioneer medical oncologists in the field of TCM clinical oncology and a leading scholar in establishment of TCM oncology program. He proposed that the theory of TCM syndrome differentiation treatment for tumor was originated from Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Febrile Diseases). He is also actively involved in the development of doctrine of seasonal febrile disease and is first scholar ever to be an advocate for the theory of “Fire Evil” and “Heat Toxin” associated with tissue injury and reaction after radiation therapy. By far, he has been supervisor for a large number of current Ph.D. and master’s students and recent graduates including 23 postdoctoral fellows and doctoral students as well as 31 master’s students. He has personally been responsible for several national research projects supported by the government agencies. From this work have come 8 books and nearly 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and he has received several awards at provincial and state level. He was honored “Public Health Excellence Award” by State Council in 1992 and has been a recipient of “Special State Allowance for Specialist” since 1992.

Dr. Zhou had been elected twice as Chairman of Oncology Committee, China Association of Chinese Medicine (CACM) since 1990. He has maintained an active working group and research team of leading scholars and professionals dedicated to TCM oncology academic professional development and establishing standardization and guideline for TCM Cancer Therapy. Moreover, he organized several domestic and international conferences/workshops to promote academic exchanges in the field of clinical TCM oncology research and practice. The Oncology Committee, CACM has become the first society among other domestic TCM societies delivering academic lectures in Hong Kong Hospital Authority and University of Hawaii, United States. It has contributed greatly to spreading Traditional Chinese Medicine abroad as well as carrying forward this quintessence and treasure of Chinese cultures.
