Biography of Professor Dr. Sarimbek Navruzov

Dr. Sarimbek Navruzov was born on January 24, 1948, in Uzbekistan. Vigorous studying and a thirst for knowledge enabled young Dr. Navruzov to graduate from high school with honors and gain admission to Tashkent State Medical Institute where he received a medical degree in 1972 after a 6-years M.D. program. He then pursued his Ph.D. in the field of surgery from 1982 to 1988 in Moscow, where his doctoral dissertation was “Surgical Treatments of Chronic Colostasis”. He passed fellow training programs in Research Centre of Proctology of Russia, the Vishnevsky Surgery Centre, and the London Hospital “Santa Mark”.

Dr. Navruzov is currently the Director of the National Research Centre of Oncology, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a position he has held since 2000. Prior to National Research Centre of Oncology, Dr. Navruzov was a Professor of Surgery and Head of Faculty of Surgery at the First Tashkent State Medical Institute, and Head of Center of Coloproctology of the Ministry of Health of Republic of Uzbekistan. He is honorary academician of the New York Scientific Academy and Europäische Akademie der Naturwissenschaften, Hannover.

Dr. Navruzov’s success and contribution to the National Research Centre of Oncology has been phenomenal. He has received much recognition for performing and mastering ground-breaking surgical procedures. Dr. Navruzov uses his dedication and scientific based advanced practice of surgeons to allow achieving high results in treatment of patients with gastrointestinal tract diseases.

As Professor of Surgery, Dr. Navruzov plays the role of teacher, supervisor and/or mentor for post-doctoral fellows, residents, research trainees, medical students, and Ph.D. students. He strives to provide first-class teaching in areas of surgery and oncology research. Currently, there are 5 M.D. graduates, and 27 Ph.D. fellows completed their degree training program under his guidance.

Dr. Navruzov contributes to scientific steering committees of research groups and associations nationally and internationally. He has done pioneering work in motivation and helps young experts-physicians. He is founder of School of Coloproctologists of Uzbekistan. He also serves as President of the Uzbekistan Oncologists’ Association, Board member of CIS countries Oncologists Association, and is active member of UICC, ASCO, ESMO, International Surgeons’ Association, CIS countries Surgeons’ Association etc. He has published more than 450 peer-reviewed articles, 6 monographs and many inventions in the field of colorectal surgery and gastroenterology.

Dr. Navruzov was invited to attend more than 10 congresses of CIS countries surgeons and oncologists, more than 30 International Congresses, more than 50 International conferences on surgery and oncology. He was President of the 5th CIS countries Oncologists Congress in 2008 and President of the 1st Uzbekistan Oncologists Congress in 2005.
