Biography of Dr. William Campbell

Dr. William Campbell is currently the president of Biomime Solutions, a British Columbia incorporated biotechnology consulting firm, the CEO of PepMetric Technologies a peptide-based drug design company and Chairman of the board of directors of Kinexus Bioinformatics. His main areas of scientific activity in recent years have been in the development of peptide arrays and software capable of identifying peptides that can interact with specifically with proteins such as HIV 1 reverse transcriptase, endothelin, and its receptor, and C5A and its receptor. Dr. Campbell is a discoverer of the carboxypeptidase, CPR which is an important enzyme with dual functions as a regulator of fibrinolysis and inflammation.

Over the last 30 years, Dr. Campbell has divided his time between Japan and Canada, most recently as assistant professor at Nagoya City University in the Department of Molecular Biology and then at the Choju Medical Institute in Toyohashi. His previous early employment includes work on the determination of air borne contaminants for the Department of Health and Welfare Canada, and the development of heterocyclic amines of biological interest for Pharma Research (Boehringer) in Montreal.

In addition to his notable achievements as a scientist and entrepreneur, Dr. Campbell is also an accomplished fine artist. He studied painting at Concordia University, McGill University, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Art School. He also holds a diploma in photography from the Dawson Institute of Photography in Montreal. He has held numerous exhibitions of his works in Canada and Japan.
